ABBY SARRETT-COOPER LPC, CEDS

Abby Sarrett-Cooper is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist in private practice and licensed in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Abby has had a passion for and focus on the needs of pediatric/transition age youth (TAY) from early in her
career. Her graduate training included practicum at Seton Hall University Counseling and Psychological Services and Caldwell University’s Counseling Center. Her post graduate training includes certification in Family Based Treatment (FBT) and intensive training in the standard model of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as well as DBT-A for adolescents, DBT for families and DBT for eating disorders all led by the leading researcher/clinicians in those areas. Abby has been in private practice for 19 years where she uses evidence based and Health at Every Size (HAES) informed practices to treat eating disorders in pediatric/TAY and multi-diagnostic individuals across the life span. Abby was an early adopter of both FBT in a community, private practice setting and of integrating DBT with FBT to empower families and manage the intense dysregulation that is regularly seen in the treatment process. Throughout her career, Abby has
been a passionate advocate in schools, the community at large and the media for evidence-based treatment that is nonjudgmental, stigma reducing and myth confronting. Abby is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and has been a member of the international and interdisciplinary Academy for Eating Disorders for 13 years where she has served in leadership, currently as the co-chair of the Special Interest Group Oversight Committee.

Angela Guarda, M.D.

Angela Guarda M.D. is the Stephen and Jean Robinson Professor of Eating Disorders and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has been the Director of the Eating Disorders Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital since 1997. Dr Guarda attended Johns Hopkins University as an undergraduate, obtained her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed residency in Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins including an externship in eating disorders at the Maudsley Hospital. She is an active clinician, educator and researcher and has published and presented extensively. Her clinical research interests include improving treatment outcomes and rates of meal-based weight restoration for anorexia nervosa and ARFID as well as medical and ethical issues surrounding the treatment of extreme anorexia nervosa. She has received grant funding from both the NIH and the Klarman Family Foundation and is involved in neuroimaging research examining neural mechanisms of appetite dysregulation that may contribute to the driven nature of eating disorders. Dr. Guarda is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders and member of the Eating Disorders Research Society, an inducted member of the Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence and has been named yearly since 2009 in Castle Connolly’s “America’s Top Doctors” for eating disorders. ANITA FEDERICI, PH.D. C.PSYCH, FAED

Dr. Anita Federici is a Clinical Psychologist and the Owner of The Centre for Psychology and Emotion Regulation. She serves an Adjunct Faculty position at York University and is a distinguished Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED). Anita has had a considerable impact on the field through her leadership, advocacy work, and expertise. To date, she has provided more than 400 lectures, workshops, and invited talks on eating disorders, DBT, and MED-DBT. Her co-authored book on MED-DBT will be published with Guilford Press in 2025. Known for her engaging and authentic style of training, Anita has become a highly sought-after consultant. She works extensively with hospitals and community organizations nationally and internationally offering team training, implementation support, and program development with a special focus on creating differential care pathways for clients for whom traditional treatments are not effective or appropriate. Her work has been presented at international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals and invited book chapters.
 

ANNA TANNER, M.D.​

Dr. Anna B. Tanner is a board-certified Pediatrician who has specialized in the care of complicated adolescent patients, in particular patients with eating disorders, for the past 25 years. Dr. Tanner completed medical school and residency at Vanderbilt University, and then remained there to serve on the Pediatrics faculty in the Division of Young Adult and Adolescent Medicine until moving to Georgia in 1999. Dr. Tanner has been very involved in advocacy and education efforts for patients with eating disorders and serves on national and international committees for eating disorders education. She speaks frequently across the United States on the medical complications of eating disorders, especially as they affect children and young adolescents, and contributed a book chapter on that topic in the 4 th edition of Dr. Philip S. Mehler’s Eating Disorders: A Comprehensive Guide to Medical Care and Complications. Dr. Tanner currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics for Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine. She is co-chair of the Academy of Eating Disorders (AED) Medical Care Standards Committee and was an author on the 4 th edition of the AED Medical Care Standards “Purple Book”. Dr. Tanner is a Fellow in the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM), a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and a Certified Eating Disorders Supervisor. She has been named by Atlanta magazine as a “Top Doctor” every year from 2013 to 2024 and named by Castle Connelly as an Exceptional Woman in Medicine and one of America’s Most Honored Doctors.
 

CYNTHIA M. BULIK, PH.D., FAED​

Cynthia M. Bulik, Ph.D., FAED, is the Founding Director of the University of North Carolina Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders, Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders in the Department of Psychiatry in the UNC School of Medicine, Professor of Nutrition in the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and Professor in the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden where she directs the Centre for Eating Disorders Innovation. A clinical psychologist, Dr. Bulik received her BA from the University of Notre Dame and her MA and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. She completed internships and post-doctoral fellowships at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh. She was the lead PI of the Anorexia Nervosa Genetics Initiative (ANGI) and is co-chair of the Eating Disorders Working Group of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium. She has active research collaborations in more than 20 countries and has published more than 550 papers and chapters on eating disorders. DANIEL LE GRANGE, PH.D.​

Daniel Le Grange, PhD, holds a Distinguished Professorship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he is Benioff UCSF Professor in Children’s Health in the Department of Psychiatry UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, and Eating Disorders Director in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Le Grange also is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at The University of Chicago. He received his doctoral education at the Institute of Psychiatry and the Maudsley Hospital, the University of London, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of London and the Maudsley Hospital, and at Stanford University School of Medicine, California. Dr. Le Grange’s research interests focuses primarily on treatment trials for adolescents with eating disorders. He has authored or co-authored more than 500 manuscripts, books, book chapters, and abstracts, and presented his work at more than 200 national and international scientific meetings. His focused scholarship has been translated into Chinese, Dutch, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish. Dr. Le Grange is a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, a member of the Eating Disorders Research Society, Past Associate Editor for BMC Psychiatry, Associate Editor for the Journal of Eating Disorders and the European Eating Disorders Review, and Editorial Board member for the International Journal of Eating Disorders and Eating Behaviours. DEBRA K. KATZMAN, M.D., FRCP(C)

Dr. Debra Katzman is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics and University of Toronto (UofT) and Senior Associate Scientist at the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). In addition, she is a member of the Institute of Medicine at the UofT. Dr. Katzman co-established the Eating Disorders Program at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in 1993 and was the Director of the Eating Disorders Program from 1993-2012. She was the Head of the Division of Adolescent Medicine SickKids from 2004-2012. Dr. Katzman is the Director for Health Science Research in Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Toronto. Dr. Katzman is the Past-President of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM) and the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED). She was the Chair of AED’s Scientific Committee. She is a Fellow of the SAHM and AED. Dr. Katzman is the Chair of Past President’s Council at SAHM and SAHM Board Member. She is a member of the DSM Review Committee for Body Systems Disorders (Feeding and Eating, Elimination, Sleep-Wake, Sexual Dysfunction, Gender Dysphoria). Dr. Katzman is also the Immediate Past Chair of Specialty Committee for Adolescent Medicine and is currently the Chair of the Examination Committee at the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. The focus of Dr. Katzman’s research program has been to study and understand the unique physiologic and developmental issues in children and adolescent with eating disorders. She has been particularly interested in the medical complications associated with pediatric eating disorders, especially osteoporosis, brain structure and function, and amenorrhea. New research priorities include exploration and improvement in the current diagnostic classification of eating disorders in children and adolescents. Dr. Katzman has published more than 150 articles, abstracts, book chapters, and editorials. Dr. Katzman co-edited a book for parents on eating disorders, “Help for Eating Disorder: A Parent’s Guide to Symptoms, Causes and Treatment.” In addition, she is the senior associate editor for the adolescent medicine textbook, “Adolescent and Young Adult Health Care: A Practical Guide 6th edition.” Dr. Katzman is on the editorial board of the Journal of Adolescent Health and the International Journal of Eating Disorders. ERIN PARKS, PH.D.

Dr. Erin Parks is a clinical psychologist, researcher, and co-founder of Equip, a virtual eating disorder treatment program that provides evidence-based care for individuals of all ages. As Equip’s Chief Clinical Officer, she oversees strategic operations and clinical programs, ensuring the maintenance of gold-standard clinical outcomes and progressive research initiatives. With over 15 years of experience working with adolescents and adults in various eating disorder treatment settings, Dr. Parks has witnessed the disparities in access to and quality of care firsthand. Before co-founding Equip, she was a faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at UC San Diego. There, she established the first pediatric eating disorder clinic for children aged 6-12 and later focused on business development for the Center’s five eating disorder programs. A graduate of Northwestern University and UC San Diego, Dr. Parks is dedicated to creating high-quality mental health treatment that fosters lasting recovery.

Glenn Waller is Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Sheffield, UK. His clinical and academic specialism is evidence-based CBT for eating disorders, with a particular emphasis on effective treatment in routine clinical settings. He has published over 340 peer-reviewed papers, 20 book chapters and six books in the field, and regularly presents workshops at national and international meetings. He is past president of the Academy for Eating Disorders and of the Eating Disorders Research Society, and is on the editorial boards of a number of journals relating to eating disorders and to CBT. He was a member of the NICE Eating Disorders Guideline Development Group, responsible for the 2017 update.

James Lock MD, PhD is a child psychiatrist and Professor of Child Psychiatry and Pediatrics in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Child Development, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University. He is the director of the Eating Disorders Program in the Division of Child Psychiatry and psychiatric director of an inpatient eating disorder program for children and adolescents at Lucile Salter Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. JANET TREASURE, PH.D., FRCP, FRCPSYCH, OBE

Professor Janet Treasure is a psychiatrist who has specialised in the treatment of eating disorders for more than 35 years. She is a consultant at the South London and Maudsley hospital and a Professor at Kings College London. She has worked extensively with patients and carers to develop new treatments. During her career she has been awarded several prizes from learned societies and the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her work with eating disorders. She is a trustee of several eating disorder and psychiatric charities. During her career, she has edited seven academic texts on eating disorders and authored three self-help books, including, Getting Better Bite by Bite on Bulimia Nervosa, Anorexia Nervosa, a Survival Guide for Families, Friends and Sufferers, a book for people with anorexia nervosa, parents and teachers, and Caring for a Loved One with an Eating Disorder: a skills-based manual of the new Maudsley method, for families and parents of people with an eating disorder. JOCELYN LEBOW, PH.D., LP

Jocelyn Lebow is a clinical psychologist who works in Integrated Behavioral Health at the Mayo Clinic. In this role she provides evidence-based psychotherapy to children and adolescents in the primary care setting. She is certified in Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for child/adolescent eating disorders, and her research focuses on improving access to this intervention. She and her team have developed and evaluated Family-Based Treatment for Primary Care, a novel adaptation of FBT that is delivered entirely by primary care providers in the primary care setting.
 

JUDITH BANKER, MA, LLP, FAED

Judith Banker, MA, LLP, FAED is the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Eating Disorders, a non-profit support and outpatient treatment facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan, established in 1983. In addition, Judith is lead consultant to the Adult and Adolescent Eating Disorders Recovery Program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and IOP (adolescents) offered by St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She lectures internationally on issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders, including the role of the family as a member of the treatment team, the transdiagnostic role of the therapeutic alliance in successful treatment, and bridging the gap between research, practice, and patient and carer perspectives to improve treatment and research. Judith has published a number of articles and chapters addressing these issues. KAMRYN EDDY, PH.D.

Dr. Kamryn Eddy is a clinical psychologist who serves as Co-Director of the Eating Disorders Clinical and Research Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and Associate Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Her research, funded through the National Institute of Mental Health, has documented the longitudinal course and outcome of eating disorders over 20+ years and described the neurobiological bases of these complex illnesses. In her current work, she builds on the mechanistic findings by testing novel cognitive behavioral and endocrine therapies that target these biobehavioral mechanisms in order to improve and expedite good outcomes. Along with her colleague, Jennifer Thomas, she developed a novel treatment for avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID). She is the co-author of two books describing this treatment including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder: Children, Adolescents, and Adults, and The Picky Eater’s Recovery Book, and has written more than 200 scientific publications. In addition, she serves as past President and current board member of the Eating Disorders Research Society.
 

KELLY BHATNAGAR, PH.D., FAED

Dr. Kelly Bhatnagar is a licensed clinical psychologist that has specialized in the scientific study and treatment of eating disorders and related psychological conditions for ~20 years. Dr. Bhatnagar completed her undergraduate and graduate studies in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. She then completed a clinical residency and postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Dr. Bhatnagar is the co-founder of the Center for Emotional Wellness, which is a multidisciplinary group therapy practice that offers research-supported treatment for youth and adults diagnosed with disordered eating, eating disorders, body image/self-esteem concerns and related psychological conditions such as depression, anxiety and trauma. Dr. Bhatnagar is certified by the Training Institute for Child & Adolescent Eating Disorders to deliver Maudsley Family Based Treatment (FBT) to individuals diagnosed with eating disorders. Dr. Bhatnagar is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University and a Consulting Psychologist at Laurel School/Laurel Center for Research on Girls. She is involved in a research collaboration with the University of Montana. Dr. Bhatnagar provides national and international training and consultation services to clinicians, hospitals and schools. Her work has been published and cited in peer-reviewed journals and books and she presents regularly at national and international conferences and scientific meetings. Dr. Bhatnagar is actively involved in the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) and served as President of the AED from 2023-2024. She was named a Fellow in the AED in 2018.
 

LAURA COLLINS LYSTER-MENSH

Laura Collins Lyster-Mensh, M.S., is a writer from Virginia who became an activist for improved eating disorder treatment after her teen daughter recovered from anorexia. Her book, Eating With Your Anorexic (McGraw Hill), is a memoir of her family’s experience. Laura is an affiliate member of the Academy for Eating Disorders. She has been an invited speaker for the At Home With Eating Disorders Conference, EDIC, National Eating Disorders Association, the Academy for Eating Disorders, Renfrew Foundation, Ophelia’s Place, the University of North Carolina Eating Disorders Program, and Eating Disorders Coalition conferences. She has written four books, two on eating disorders. In her leisure time she tap dances and watches very very old movies. Laura writes columns and produces podcasts on children’s mental health and has been interviewed by the Washington Post, The New York Times, BBC News, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, NPR, and the Los Angeles Times. Laura has served on the F.E.A.S.T. Board of Directors since 2007 and has held positions as Executive Director, Policy Director, Board Member, and Outreach Director from its incorporation in 2009 until 2021. LAUREN MUHLHEIM, PSYD

Dr. Lauren Muhlheim, Psy.D., FAED, CEDS is a psychologist, certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS), and IAEDP (International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals) – approved supervisor who provides evidence-based treatment for eating disorders in the outpatient setting. Dr. Muhlheim is the author of When your Teen Has an Eating Disorder: Practical Strategies to Help Your Teen Overcome Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating, published by New Harbinger Publications in September, 2018. This book is an FBT-based book for parents who are helping adolescents with eating disorders. Dr. Muhlheim is active in several professional organizations. LUCENE WISNIEWSKI, PH.D., FAED

Lucene Wisniewski, PhD, FAED is a clinician, trainer, and researcher whose interests center around using empirically founded treatments to inform clinical practice. Lucene, an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, has taught more than 150 workshops, lectures and presentations on Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavior Therapies internationally and has over 40 publications in peer reviewed journals and invited book chapters. Lucene has been elected fellow, has served on the board of directors, and as the co-chair of the Borderline Personality Disorder special interest group of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED). MARK WARREN, M.D., MPH, FAED

Dr. Mark Warren graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Harvard Medical School. His practice focuses on bringing the most up-to-date research into evidence-based care. He serves on the faculty of Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and teaches at University Hospitals of Cleveland and The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Warren is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders, where he founded the SIGs for Males and Eating Disorders and also for Professionals and Recovery. He is currently on the Patient/Carer Committee of the AED. He is a two-time recipient of the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and a winner of the Woodruff Award. RACHEL BACHNER-MELMAN, PH.D.

Rachel Bachner-Melman, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment and research of eating disorders. She has rich experience in treating eating disorders – at Hadassah University Medical Center, where she coordinated the eating disorders unit in the Adult Psychiatry ward from 2010-2011; at Lily Safra Children’s Hospital, in Chaim Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer; and at Koli, the Jerusalem Center for Recovery from Eating Disorders, which she founded in 2015 to help people with eating disorders and their carers. Her doctorate, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, focused on genetic and personality factors associated with anorexia nervosa in athletes and non-athletes. Dr Bachner-Melman is a Senior Lecturer in the MA Clinical Psychology Program at the Ruppin Academic Center in Emek Hefer and the MA program in Social Work at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. REBECKA PEEBLES, M.D.

Dr. Rebecka Peebles is the Vice President of Adolescent Medicine at Monte Nido. She joined after 13 years at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Perelman School of Medicine at The University of Pennsylvania, where she was an Associate Professor of Pediatrics, specializing in adolescent and young adult medicine.

Dr. Peebles is board-certified in pediatrics and further specialty certified in adolescent and young adult medicine, and served as the Director of Medical Research and Quality Innovations in the Eating Disorder Assessment and Treatment Program at CHOP, which she co-founded in 2011. SARAH RAVIN, PH.D.

Dr. Sarah Ravin brings a fresh perspective to her clinical work, which is grounded in the latest scientific research on the etiology and treatment of mental disorders. Dr. Ravin earned a B.A. in Psychology from Smith College in 2001 and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from American University in 2008. STEPHEN WONDERLICH PH.D., FAED

Stephen Wonderlich Ph.D., FAED, is the Vice President for Research at Sanford Health, Fargo North Dakota and the Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor for University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Until 2018, he served as the Co-Director of the Eating Disorder and Weight Management Center at Sanford Health in Fargo. He has been active both clinically and scientifically in the area of eating disorders for 40 years. He has published extensively in the professional and scientific literature. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Academy for Eating Disorders, Eating Disorder Research Society, and National Eating Disorder Association. He also served as the President of the Academy for Eating Disorders in 1999. He serves on the editorial boards of several professional journals and also served on the DSM-5 Eating Disorder Workgroup. He has been the recipient of several professional awards for his work in eating disorders and mental health. His research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1998. He currently serves as the Principal Investigator of the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence Award in eating disorders from NIH.

THERESE WATERHOUS, PH.D., RD, LD

Therese S. Waterhous PhD, RDN, CEDRD-S is an eating disorder expert in private practice in Corvallis, Oregon. She has worked with families and their children for more than 25 years, having completed a pediatric fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham during graduate school. Dr. Waterhous was one of the founding board members for the international non-profit advocacy group FEAST-ED (Families Empowered and Supporting Treatment for Eating Disorders). She has worked with the Eating Disorders Coalition during two of its Washington DC lobbying days and she delivers many local talks to various groups, educating them about eating disorders. Dr. Waterhous co-authored the ADA Practice Paper on nutrition interventions in eating disorders, she served as Director of the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness nutrition practice group’s subunit on disordered eating and eating disorders. She has served on the Oregon IAEDP (International Assn. for Eating Disorders Professionals) chapter board and currently serves on the national IAEDP Excellence in Practice Committee. Dr. Waterhous served on the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) special interest group on Family Based Treatment and currently is active on the Medical Care Standards Committee and the Patient Carer Committee of AED. WALTER KAYE, M.D.

Walter H. Kaye, M.D., is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and Director of the Eating Disorder Research and Treatment Program. Dr. Kaye attended Ohio State Medical School, trained in neurology at the University of Southern California, and trained in psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Kaye was then a fellow and research physician at the National Institute of Mental Health for seven years where he conducted research on appetite regulation, behavior, and treatment for disorders. Dr. Kaye was on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh for 20 years until joining UCSD. His current research is focused on exploring the relationship between brain and behavior using brain imaging and investigating new treatments in anorexia and bulimia nervosa. He is also the principal investigator for an international, multi-site collaboration on the genetics of anorexia and bulimia nervosa.
