Abby Sarrett-Cooper is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist in private practice and licensed in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Abby has had a passion for and focus on the needs of pediatric/transition age youth (TAY) from early in her
career. Her graduate training included practicum at Seton Hall University Counseling and Psychological Services and Caldwell University’s Counseling Center. Her post graduate training includes certification in Family Based Treatment (FBT) and intensive training in the standard model of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as well as DBT-A for adolescents, DBT for families and DBT for eating disorders all led by the leading researcher/clinicians in those areas. Abby has been in private practice for 19 years where she uses evidence based and Health at Every Size (HAES) informed practices to treat eating disorders in pediatric/TAY and multi-diagnostic individuals across the life span. Abby was an early adopter of both FBT in a community, private practice setting and of integrating DBT with FBT to empower families and manage the intense dysregulation that is regularly seen in the treatment process. Throughout her career, Abby has
been a passionate advocate in schools, the community at large and the media for evidence-based treatment that is nonjudgmental, stigma reducing and myth confronting. Abby is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and has been a member of the international and interdisciplinary Academy for Eating Disorders for 13 years where she has served in leadership, currently as the co-chair of the Special Interest Group Oversight Committee.
Angela Guarda M.D. is the Stephen and Jean Robinson Professor of Eating Disorders and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has been the Director of the Eating Disorders Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital since 1997. Dr Guarda attended Johns Hopkins University as an undergraduate, obtained her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed residency in Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins including an externship in eating disorders at the Maudsley Hospital. She is an active clinician, educator and researcher and has published and presented extensively. Her clinical research interests include improving treatment outcomes and rates of meal-based weight restoration for anorexia nervosa and ARFID as well as medical and ethical issues surrounding the treatment of extreme anorexia nervosa. She has received grant funding from both the NIH and the Klarman Family Foundation and is involved in neuroimaging research examining neural mechanisms of appetite dysregulation that may contribute to the driven nature of eating disorders. Dr. Guarda is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders and member of the Eating Disorders Research Society, an inducted member of the Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence and has been named yearly since 2009 in Castle Connolly’s “America’s Top Doctors” for eating disorders. Dr. Rebecka Peebles is the Vice President of Adolescent Medicine at Monte Nido. She joined after 13 years at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Perelman School of Medicine at The University of Pennsylvania, where she was an Associate Professor of Pediatrics, specializing in adolescent and young adult medicine.
Dr. Peebles is board-certified in pediatrics and further specialty certified in adolescent and young adult medicine, and served as the Director of Medical Research and Quality Innovations in the Eating Disorder Assessment and Treatment Program at CHOP, which she co-founded in 2011. Her research has been funded by the NIH and the American Heart Association and has focused on medical evaluation, bone health, and biobehavioral links in youth with eating disorders.
