Around the Dinner Table online forum
An online community of parents of eating disorder patients around the world

Forum Rules

The ATDT forum has connected and supported parents since 2004.

Here are the rules of the forum:

• Kindness and civility.
• The forum is meant for parents and adult carers only. (Clinicians and professionals in the ED field may post, but we ask that the conversation remain primarily between and in the service of parents and carers specific questions)
• Posts by current patients will be deleted, not because we don't care but because we do. Care advice should come from one's own parents and treatment providers, not strangers.
• Caregiving parents who are also in treatment for eating disorders must limit questions to caregiving issues. • Registration is required to join the discussion. Contact information given during registration will not be used for any other purpose than FEAST.
• The ONLY information required for registration is a username and active email address. All other information is available for viewing by registered members.
• Advice given on online forums is of variable quality and reliability.
• Anything you post will be available to anyone, anywhere, permanently. If you post about specific people, treatment providers, or methods you can assume that the subject will read it.
• This forum is an adjunct, not a replacement for professional consultation.
• Inappropriate registrations and posts will be deleted.
• When parents grow depressed or anxious under the understandable strain of caregiving, it is essential to seek clinical assistance 'on the ground.' ATDT cannot provide therapy or interventions.
• Users can edit or delete their own posts and registration information at any time.
• Please feel free to share your experience and opinion, but refrain from telling others what to do. Please be mindful and inclusive of the range of religious and cultural backgrounds using the forum.

Forum Feedback

“I was very fortunate in finding the website forum (Around the Dinner Table). It was immensely helpful in making me feel empowered to fight this. I met a women who lived in my city through the forum.”

“The tragedy of our family's destruction might have been avoided if I had known about this website sooner."

“If i can do it, all of your children can.”

“The change in our son was almost immediate. To date, (11 months since the beginning of the anorexia) he has regained 20 lbs. His mental state has improved with each pound regained. I credit aroundthedinnertable.org with all the successes we've had since then.”

“I too have been incredibly encouraged by the forum. … I even saw in myself the sudden attempt of ED to reestablish itself as I neared my target weight... and was able to face it down because I knew that was what the forum posters had seen in their own children. Thank you so much.”

”Around the Dinner Table is absolutely invaluable. I cannot imagine trying to go through this alone.”

“Therapist said this was the fastest healing she had ever seen in an ED patient! ”

“I know that if this happened to (my son) - it can happen to anyone.”

“Thanks to the "Around the Table" parents online forum, our family was able to support her in continued weight gain and mental rehabilitation.”

“with the support of the parents in the forum, we got more assertive and started being in charge, and then was when our d's health came back. It hasn't been easy but worth it every moment. I hope we won't to have to face ED again but if we do we have been empowered now and we will know what to do.”

“…keep doing what you're doing."

“Support through forum discussion has been my LIFESAVER. Much more information than our clinic therapist ever provided or ever probably could.”
