Menus and Meal Planning
From the experience of parents on the Around the Dinner Table online forum

The topic of "what's for dinner" comes up a lot on the forum as parents get a crash course on nutrition, on refeeding, on getting enough calories and in the best proportions into recovering patients. For anorexia recovery the amount of calories often far exceed the normal caloric requirements of a growing child - but many families are unaware of how many calories a normal child needs (more than most adults).

For patients recovering from bulimia, stabilization of eating is also critical. Meals must be balanced and frequent, and meet the patient's unique needs during a time when metabolism may be erratic.

Some of the most popular threads on the forum are those that involve meal planning:

  • A sample meal plan for one day?
  • High calorie suggestions
  • should we push "junk" food?
  • F.E.A.S.T.'s Family Recipe Book
  • Families discuss the Kartini Clinic Structured Meal plan, available HERE
