F.E.A.S.T. Advisor honored at Academy for Eating Disorders conference in Austin

F.E.A.S.T. / AED / MEDA volunteer, Mary Beth Krohel, received an Advocacy award on Saturday. Well-deserved and beautifully accepted. Introduced with great charm and admiration by Ovidio Bermudez, M.B. gave a wise acceptance speech accompanied by a spectacular PowerPoint. We are so proud to know M.B. and to have her as a partner in advocacy and Advisor to this organization. She embodies collaboration and, as she puts it, being "Switzerland" in terms of getting along with everyone. We also note she's as efficient as a Swiss watch!

Omnigraphics publishes F.E.A.S.T. material

Omnigraphics will publish "The Impact of Other Conditions" and aspects of the F.E.A.S.T. online eating disorders Glossary in an upcoming book called Eating Disorders Information for Teens, Third Edition. The Teen Health Series are designed for schools and public libraries.

"Genetic studies have found that weight is as heritable as height, yet many people wake up everyday hating their weight and scorning those who are fatter. Although tallness and thinness are both valued, there isn’t widespread contempt of short people; height is seen as beyond the individual’s control. If a short person woke up every day hating her height we would question her sanity and values."

Dealing with schooling during eating disorder recovery

Families face many challenges during eating disorder treatment for a child or adolescent and schooling is an important factor. Parents often find themselves teaching the teachers, administrators, and other school staff about the nature of both eating disorders and treatment.

Lauren Muhlheim, Psy.D., CEDS, practices in the Los Angeles area and offers practical advice for families and schools to support a loved one through treatment to recovery. Advice for middle school, high school, andinternational schools are covered.
